Physical Culture Barbell Club - Putney's original Gymnasium.

" Quaint gym filled with top notch equipment and amazing people. Definitely the gym to train at in Putney for all levels of fitness." (Google review 2015)

Physical Culture Gym is located in a pleasant residential area in the centre of Putney, just a few moments away from Putney High Street or any of the train stations (Putney, East Putney or Putney Bridge stations).

No matter what your current fitness level or age we will give you a warm welcome.   Our members range from the age of 14 to 70 plus.  At  just under 3000 sq ft the Gym is equipped with a full line of Eleiko, MedX, Nautilus and other essential equipment (see list here) to perform the perfect tailored work-out.

Originally opened in 1928 by Miss Margaret Grey (see 1954 Newspaper article below), the gym has remained Putney’s local gym ever since.  To this day, despite all the large Health Clubs and major chain gyms that have flooded the Putney area, the gym stays true to its family roots and provides that unpretentious, cultivated and friendly atmosphere of a local, members only, club.

While other unseasoned gyms mainly focus their attention on the body beautiful and an artificial look, often accompanied by an over emphasis on the need for supplements, magic pills and quick fixes,   we foster a healthier, more realistic outlook.  Our message?  Exercise to get stronger, faster, more skillful and, guess what?  You actually start to feel and look better!

Physical Culture Gym remains true to Miss Grey’s original concept.  We provide simple, high quality equipment and a friendly environment to support a range of evidence-based exercise that has stood the test to time; exercises that form the foundation of all physical activity for quality day-to-day life and sport.

With a longstanding, impressive reputation (see reviews here Gym Reviews Google, Facebook, Gym Buzz), this gem of a gym in Putney is a place where members are encouraged to challenge themselves and work together to improve and achieve their individual goals wheter that be competitive Powerlifting or just getting fit and strong for all lifes challenges.
